It all starts with the vision

I conceived of The Mysterious They while playing electric violin and beat-boxing with a looper-pedal for yoga classes. I wanted to make music that was atmospheric and groovy, that could hold space for sacred movement practice. At the time, I owned and operated The Hallowed Halls recording studio in Portland, OR, and was building many connections within the creative community.

I recorded my loops and invited my talented musician friends, who I thought would resonate with the project, into the studio. Each musician added their magic as they jammed, and the vision gradually expanded and came into clearer form.

Each song tells a different story, contains a different quality of energy, conveys a different feeling. And each musician interpreted that in their own way, according to how they felt in the moment.

My producers and I then combed through the massive marble block that was everything from the recording sessions, and carefully carved out the exquisite sculpture that is the album. It always stayed aligned with the original vision, even as it surprised and delighted me throughout its evolution.

The Mysterious They is an offering to the world. It is my honor to receive the vision and to bring it to fruition. I give my deepest, most-heartfelt gratitude to my collaborators, without whom I could have never created such an elaborate work of beauty. My prayer is that you use the music for your healing, creativity, dance, yoga, ceremony, meditation, psychedelic experience, etc.

May you dive into the Great Mystery with openness, curiosity, and love.
